The Ethan Allen Regatta is unusual in that it is a pursuit race. Boats are given a starting time based on their handicap and the length of the course. This is an effective method for starting a mixed fleet especially for sailors new to racing. The slowest boat starts first with the fastest last. The first one across the finish line wins, Simple!

Wind was 10-15 knots out of the southeast and the racers were given a downwind start. Charly Dickerson sailing his J-24 “C-Jam Blues” nearly knocked off last years champion Dave Ellis by sailing towards a small wind line on the left side of the course while “Results”, sailed by the Signorello family, ran wing on wing straight for the mark.
